Princeton, 20 April 2024
Dear colleagues,
in my electoral letter of Spring 2022, I promised transparency should you elect me president of the Academy. Since I am now in office, I will do my best to live up to this promise. This is why I wrote to you at the end of last year. I invited you to let me know whether you would be willing to share your email addresses with all other members of the Academy. The response was modest. I conclude that communicating in the Academy via email messages is not a way many of you prefer. Hence, I decided to establish a personal website as president. I hope you will find this a more productive manner for communication within the Academy as well as for making our association better known to our colleagues outside it.
I invite all of you to participate in building it. The idea is to share information about publications by each one of you with the other members, as well as information about events that you organize and to which you wish to invite in-person or online participants.
A third part of this website will be dedicated to resources that any of you wish to share with other colleagues, be it for teaching, research, or contributing to the preparation of the 100th anniversary of the Academy in 2028.
I will inform you regularly about my activities, ask for your advice and comments, and publish your proposals on how to modernize our association.
I hope very much that this format finds your approval and active engagement in the best interest of the Academy. Only when many of us cooperate can we live up to the heritage of the founder of the International Academy for the History of Science, Aldo Mieli, and leave behind the phase of lethargy and strife.
With all my best wishes for you all,
Sonja Brentjes
